Why?
I love Instagram. I love that it’s given me a sewing community, that it’s kept the fires of creativity burning, that I’m inspired to sew something new or that I learn something new every day.
I started my account when I was in desperate need for control and for a form of creativity that I was in charge of. Something that allowed me to go from start to finish and have something I could truly own at the end of it. My day job as a creative director or brand lead means I’m always inevitably confined by something – commercials, guidelines, stakeholders, time, budget. So I sought out some peace on the side, a place that was my own, where I could create under my own steam and with my own rules. And if it failed, I failed and if it succeeded, I succeeded.
Two years into my sewing journey and as I get more reflective, I’d like a place to also share longer form, to document with less of an eye on likes or images and more on expressing what things mean to me.
So peaceontheside – another piece – is born. Let’s see how it goes.
